Elk Grove Unveils Largest Affordable Housing Development with MOSA Apartment Homes |
New 387-Unit Complex Provides Housing for Approximately 1,200 Residents |
Elk Grove has taken a significant step forward in addressing its affordable housing needs with the grand opening of the MOSA Apartment Homes, the city's largest affordable housing development to date.
Located at 10219 Bruceville Road, the expansive complex comprises 387 units spread across eight three-story and six four-story buildings. The development offers a range of amenities, including learning centers, a fitness studio, courtyards, community lounges, recreation areas, and ample surface parking.
Once fully occupied, MOSA Apartment Homes will provide housing for approximately 1,200 residents, offering long-term stability and opportunities for families, working professionals, and individuals.
During the opening ceremony, California State Controller Malia Cohen emphasized the broader impact of the development, stating, "This is a community that represents not just housing; but for me, it’s a community that represents hope, a community that represents equity; and, most importantly, opportunity."
The project was spearheaded by developers Reese Jarrett of E. Smith and Co. and Michael Johnson of Urban Core Development. Their collaboration marks a significant milestone as they are the first Black developers to lead an affordable housing project in Elk Grove.
In addition to MOSA, Elk Grove has been proactive in expanding its affordable housing inventory. The city recently celebrated the opening of The Lyla, a 294-unit development located farther north on Bruceville Road. Together, these projects add nearly 700 affordable homes to the local housing landscape.
Looking ahead, the city has approved a $4.2 million loan for an 89-unit senior affordable housing project in Old Town Elk Grove. This development, led by Mutual Housing of California, is slated to begin construction in February 2026, with completion expected by September 2027.
Elk Grove Councilmember Rod Brewer highlighted the city's commitment to affordable housing, stating, "Elk Grove will always be committed to affordable housing. We are answering the call to meet the needs of people who need it the most."
These developments underscore Elk Grove's dedication to providing diverse housing options and fostering inclusive communities for all residents. |
